ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Tim Timmons: Several of you received emails concerning the funeral arrangements for Tim Timmons and didn’t know who he was and asked me to let you know. I didn’t personally know Tim, but he was a pitching coach who worked with many pitchers in the Houston area for many years. I know he worked with a couple of my former players as well. I have copied part of his obituary from the Houston Chronicle: Tim Timmons was a nationally acclaimed fast pitch instructor. Pitching in the A division of the Los Angeles Parks and Recreation Leagues 1967 through 1978, he had a 334-37 win/loss record, including seven first place finishes in the Los Angeles City Championship Tournament and one first place finish in the California State Championship. As a pitcher, Tim did not have a strong arm and had to learn to make the ball move. In 1968, he learned to throw the rise ball from the late, great, Eddie Feighner, the King, from the King and His Court. He learned the change-up from Nancy Welborn of the woman's pro league teams, the Santa Anna Lionettes and the San Diego Sandpipers. Joe Barraza taught him to throw the drop ball and he taught himself to throw the curve ball and screwball. And at the age of sixty five, Tim could still spin the curve and rise balls at 40rps on the Rev Fire system. Tim began teaching others as soon as he mastered the pitches himself. He began instructing part time in the Los Angeles area in 1968 and full time in the Houston area since 1988. His enthusiasm for the sport and desire to develop scholarship athletes is his driving force.
ALSO (Candace Thornton): Katrina Thornton, head coach at Livingston High School, sent this information to me last Friday: Candace Thornton, former coach for Lexington High School of 12 years, also my cousin, lost her battle with cancer. She passed away last Friday and services were held yesterday. I apologize for not getting this information to you sooner, but it has been a little crazy around here. I know several coaches have already contacted our family, but I just wanted to let everyone know. Thank you for all you do for our coaching family.
