THURSDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2008 It’s been a very busy week at school with final
exams and reviews going on, but now that finals have begun, it has eased up
quite a bit (because of exemptions for seniors). If I see another research
project, I might just gag on it!! LOL!! Friday will be the last email of 2008. We will begin
posting again on Monday, January 5th. Also, it isn’t too late to sign up for the 5th
annual Gulf Coast Softball Clinic and the Frisco Clinic which are both in
January. If you are planning to come to the Gulf Coast Clinic and your name

snow fall that we had yesterday and last night. I think it is the first time
ever that it snowed twice in College Station on the same day!! There were a lot
of snowball fights in the parking lot after school. Our soccer teams were

PREP SOFTBALL WEBSITE: I have been converting the www.texasprepsoftball.net
website over the past few days to a more attractive and a more modern website. I
have been using Front Page 2000 for the past several years and since that
program is almost 9 years old, it won’t let me do many of the new items that
are now available on the internet. The new Joomla softball gives me more
flexibility to add items to the website. There are still many things I need to
do, but everything that we had before, is still available on the new website, so
there will be some construction in the next couple of weeks. I also used it on
my school webpage www.amctigersoftball.com.

stories of families who are coaching with and against each other in some of your
emails to me yesterday. It shows me that our sport is one big family!!! I’ll

Discussion: After
my last email, I received some good comments from you on both sides of the issue
of the pitching distance staying at 40’ or moving to 43’. This issue has
been coming up each year and probably will continue to come up as long as there
are those who are passionate on the issue from both sides of the fence. On the
forum page of www.texasprepsoftball.net,
I started a thread called “Pitching Distance Revisited,” where members of
the forum can vote and post their thoughts on the matter. I
encourage you to come to the forum to discuss and read the discussion and vote.
The TGCA softball committee chairperson, Coach Sorensen of Baytown Sterling, had
a very good post on the topic last night, with insight from Mr. Tipton of the
TGCA. I believe that the TGCA and the TFCA are all wanting the result of the
debate to be something that will be for the good of the game. Both organizations
may be separately discussing the issues right now, but I think that the goal for
both are the same and will support each other in the long run. Coach
Sorensen and I both agree that we will all support what the clear majority wants
to do in the matter, but ultimately, it will come down to what the NFHS wants to
do, no matter what we want in Texas. We were all taken by surprise by the metal
cleats rule and I personally didn’t like it at first, but now I am very happy
that we have the rule in place. To

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL MEETING RESULTS FOR SOFTBALL: I attended the UIL Legislative Council meeting on
Sunday as a representative of the TFCA and also Coach Wes Overton was there as a
member of the Executive Committee of the TGCA. Neither one of us spoke in the
public hearing, but we were both able to observe the activities of the UIL. Approved in the Athletic Committee meeting on
Sunday, and to be approved at the General meeting on Monday (I was back at
school) were two items that concern softball.
Also, the superintendent from Barbers Hill ISD did
question Mr. Tipton and the UIL staff as to why the pitching distance is not the
same as college at 43 feet. It was explained to him by Dr. Breithaupt and Peter
Contreras that this is a National Federation rule and we have to follow those
rules. I did talk to him and he is
very much in favor of moving the distance, but I also told him of the surveys
that do not show the coaches in clear favor of moving the distance. I am in
favor of moving the distance, but I will represent the view of the clear
majority of the coaches, which there is not a clear majority either way. I still need 2 dates filled for JV 2 games on
February 16th and February 23rd if anyone has any openings. Jimmy

Bonham
HS Players injured in accident. Several
Bonham HS players were involved in an accident over the weekend. Chris Hill,
head coach, has sent Jeff Lemons an update on the conditions of the players that
were involved. Please pray for the players, their families, and the softball
program at Bonham HS. Chris’s email is chris.hill@bonhamisd.org.
Below is her update on the players. 4
of them have come home and 2 are in the hospital. 3 of them had lots of
scrapes, bruises, stitches,and staples......they still haven't come back to
school. 1 girl had neck surgery on Monday---she had 3 plates put in her
4th, 5th, and 6th vertebrae's......and she got to come home yesterday. 1
girl had a major concussion and she is still in the hospital, but should get to
come home today or tomorrow. 1 girl had hip surgery, she broke her hip and
crushed some vertebrae's in her back, along with ribs, and spleen and kidney are
ripped. She will be in the hospital for a few more days. Thank you
